The Lamborghini Espada Series 1 was introduced in 1968 as the company’s first true four-seat grand tourer. Designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, it translated the sharp lines of the earlier Marzal concept into a production car, with its low nose, large glass area, and distinctive rear hatch giving it a futuristic look for the late 1960s.
Powered by a 3.9-liter V12 producing around 325 horsepower, the Series 1 combined high-speed performance with genuine space for four adults, something very few exotic cars could offer at the time. Around 186 Series 1 examples were built before the updated Series 2 arrived in 1970, making the earliest Espadas the rarest and purest version of the model.
