The Lamborghini LM002 was introduced in **1986** as the brand’s first production off-road vehicle and one of the most extreme utility vehicles ever built. Developed after a series of military prototype attempts in the late 1970s and early 1980s (LM001 and Cheetah projects), the LM002 marked Lamborghini’s unexpected entry into the luxury off-road segment.
It was powered by a 5.2-liter V12 derived from the Countach, producing around 450 horsepower, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive. Despite its size and weight, it was capable of impressive performance for an off-roader, with a top speed of over 200 km/h depending on configuration.
Visually, the LM002 was massive and boxy, with wide fender flares, a tall stance, large air intakes, and military-inspired proportions softened by luxury detailing. It was often fitted with massive Pirelli Scorpion tires specifically designed for it, emphasizing its dual role as both a high-end luxury SUV and a desert-capable machine.
Produced until 1993 with around 300 examples built, the LM002 remains one of Lamborghini’s most unconventional creations, bridging the gap between military prototype origins and the modern luxury SUV segment that would later define the brand with the Urus.
